AFRICAN OYÉ
Africa Oyé is an annual festival held in Sefton Park, Liverpool, and the largest celebration of live African music and culture in the UK. What began as a small, multi-venue event has grown into a major public festival, attracting more than fifty thousand people each year.
Event photography focused on documenting the scale and atmosphere of the festival across the park. The work captures crowd movement and food vendors, alongside quieter moments that sit between the music and the spectacle.
Capturing live music and collective cultural experience
Rather than isolating performers or staging moments, the coverage centres on how the festival is experienced as a whole, the relationship between sound, space and people over the course of the day.The resulting images provide a visual record of Africa Oyé as a large-scale cultural gathering, reflecting its role as a public, inclusive celebration of music and culture within the city.
